Scorsese focuses on the violence present in the male identity in this painful yet powerful film.

Raging Bull

Raging Bull is arguably the finest work from the Scorsese and De Niro partnership. De Niro gives an amazing portrayal of a man whose animal side lurks just beneath the surface, ever ready to erupt. Vivid and unremitting in its uncompromising brutality and honesty, the fight sequences are famed for their realism. Violent throughout, this film is a testament to Scorsese's and De Niro skills, creating a thoroughly absorbing film about such an unlikable character. Raging Bull

Towering Colossus-like over the mass of 1980s and contemporary Hollywood product, this is a ferociously intense, unflinchingly honest and cinematically brilliant portrait of troubled middleweight champ Jake la Motta. Journey with us now as we take you into the heart of volcanoes in our quest to predict these looming disasters. In particular we focus on the city of Banos, in Ecuador, which lies in the shadows of the deadly volcano, Tungurahua, 'The Black Giant'.

Raging Planet - When Nature Rules

The Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906, Hurricane Camille of 1969 and the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980 were the worst natural disasters America can remember. These events were extreme examples of nature unleashing itself, leaving people defenseless in their wake. This programme sets out to understand why they occurred and how we can measure, predict and effect the consequences of future disasters.

Ragtime

RahXephon - Orchestration 1: Threshold

The city of Tokyo has been overthrown, taken over by the Mu, invaders who have devastated the rest of the planet. Within the doomed walls of the city, none of the citizens know that they have been conquered. Outside the city the remnants of the human race have fought a desperate 15 year battle against the Mu, knowing only that the key to victory lies within the occupied city.

RahXephon - Orchestration 2: Tonal Pattern

TERRA is forced to use their secret weapon, the Rah Xephon, as the Mu launch a succession of attacks against the free world. The pilot is reluctant to comply as he is lost in time and trapped in a world he thought he had destroyed. Ayato must confront both a new wave of Dolem and his suspicions that he is only a pawn in a much larger game.

RahXephon - Orchestration 3: Harmonic

With the help of Quon and Reika, Ayato must discover the truth about himself or be trapped inside his dreams forever. Meanwhile the walls between Mu and the real world start to fall apart once more.

RahXephon - Orchestration 4: Dissonace

Tremors ripple through the city as new Dolems attack, but the most dangerous shock waves of all are the mental assaults that now threaten to overwhelm Ayato's grasp of the physical world itself. As new players enter the deadly game between the humans and the Mu, the young pilot finds himself alone and without backup, struggling to rebuild the foundation of his own reality as the universe threatens to collapse beneath him. The secrets of Ixtli begin to reveal themselves in the fourth volume of RahXephon.

RahXephon - Orchestration 5: Synaesthesia

The city of Tokyo is still in the grip of Mu. Ayato is on the run from close friends on two sides. The secret of the Dolems is about to be uncovered and the significance of this will stay with Ayato forever. He soon finds that an extreme sacrifice must be made in order to remain alive.

RahXephon - Orchestration 6: Aria

The new commander of Terra is planning for a final assault on Tokyo Jupiter. Mamoru, Ayato's former friend, attacks Nirai-Kanai in order to avenge the death of Hiroko. A new cadet joins the Terra group and to some seems strangely familiar. Ayato is faced with a stark choice in what ultimately will determine his destiny will he reclaim the RahXephon or make some difficult sacrifices?

RahXephon - Orchestration 7: Crescendo

At long last, the war with the Mu reaches its climax. The truths that have been hidden are finally revealed. As Ayato stands on the brink of making the ultimate choice, the future of not just one man and one woman, but of two sentient races, hangs in the balance. The symphony of light and terror, of treachery and love, at last completes itself in the final volume.

RahXephon - The Movie

Return to the world of RahXephon, where humans and Mu fight for dominance over a shattered Earth, and giant statues are the ultimate weapons. Where music forms the fabric of the universe and the link between two hearts is the thread upon which the fate of humanity hangs. It is still a love story, but it is not the same story. Not exactly. Prepare for new visions and new revelations, as the other side of RahXephon is finally revealed.

Raiders Of The Living Dead

In an abandoned prison, a doctor has revived executed convicts as the living dead. Teenager Scott Schwartz creates a weapon from a videodisc player's laser and pursues the walking dead, aided by his girlfriend and grandfather (Bob Allen).

Raigyo

Set amidst the desolate background of a warped and twisted Japan. Raigyo takes its concept from a real life event in which a black clad woman murders a man that she had just met by chance through a phone sex club. Her chosen place for this execution, where he will be stabbed to death, is called the 'Love Hotel'. Raigyo enhances these themes of random meetings, random sex and random love by adding random sexual violence to the mix. All of these elements are then played out against an alienating, surreal, and bleak Japan which all combine to make Raigyo a clear example of 'Pink' cinema.

Ramallah Concert, The/ Knowledge Is The Beginning

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra started as a Workshop in 1999 comprising talented young musicians between the ages of 14 and 25 from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia and Israel. The idea was that they would come together to make music on neutral ground, with the guidance of some of the world's best musicians. The Workshop has taken place annually since then, and now has a permanent home in Seville, Spain. In 2005 the Orchestra made a hugely-successful international tour that culminated in this extraordinary concert in the city of Ramallah. This was the first time the Orchestra gave a concert in one of its members' home countries. It was standing-room only in the 700-seat concert hall, and the atmosphere was electric. The programme included Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante in E flat major and Beethoven's Symphony No.5. The Ramallah Concert DVD features the entire concert, with an 18 minute prologue and a short epilogue showing events before and after the event. For example, the young Israeli members of the orchestra had to enter and leave the Palestinian Territory in bullet-proof cars and could not stay overnight. 'Knowledge Is The Beginning', by Paul Smazcny, is a powerful documentary about the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, filmed over 6 years, and includes footage of rehearsals and concerts in various countries, including the orchestra's first concert in an Arab country. This is a re-edited and much longer version of a documentary released earlier this year, including footage of Daniel Barenboim controversially receiving the Wolf Prize from the Israeli parliament.

Rampage

Is it the energy - that rush provoked just before the bell, when ladies are looking glamorous in their sizzling outfits? Is it the ring, the very epitome of a prop for a fight and the knowledge that these ladies will soon be dragged over these ropes and tormented by its structure? Is it the action, seeing them sweat, trapped by their nemesis in a wrestling hold on the mat? Is it the trip watching two women lock-up, every hair in place, mascara perfectly applied, destined to slide until they are both sporting the same hairstyle - unruly and wild, but one victorious and the other defeated? Welcome to the ladies professional wrestling association - let the games begin!

Rampage

Gittoes follows a premise set up by the soldier musician Elliott Lovett, in Soundtrack to War, Iraq ?we get shot at more in Miami than Baghdad?. Rampage takes us to a battered project near Miami airport, to meet the Lovett Family and the Brown Sub community, and explores the ways out ? war, music, or death. Elliot Lovett (23), the soldier Gittoes meets in a rap battle in Baghdad, links the two worlds of war, and takes us to Miami- where we meet street smart, Marcus Lovett (20), considered by Elliot to be the most talented rap artist of the family, and little brother, Denzell (14). When a 16 yr old hit man murders his talented older brother during the making of the film, Denzell is left with his lyrics and demo Cds, to carry the family?s desperate hope that their music will get them out of the ghetto. Opening a chance for Denzell, the film glides from the gutter of Brown Sub, Miami ? the tough street world that Denzell has rapped about in ?Rampage? - to the giddy heights of the New York offices where Denzell meets, head on, the tests of the music business. A host of other characters become windows into the human landscape of America?s South, as Gittoes gets it down as it happens on the street, stepping outside the hypes and stereotypes, bringing us a startling contemporary portrait of America. RAMPAGE gets us into the inner workings of Urban Culture which has risen out of the poverty of America?s poorest communities to become the dominant popular influence on world youth, music and fashion.
