Mary Higgins Clark - You Belong to Me

Headstrong psychologist, Dr. Susan Chandler, uses her call-in radio show to talk about the plight of lonely women who are preyed upon by calculating killers. Chandler is particularly interested in the disappearance of a woman named Regina Clausen and during the last few moments of the show a nervous, married woman who goes by the name of 'Karen' calls in saying she was almost a victim and can identify the murderer, but is too frightened to come forward. As Susan digs deeper into the case she does not realise that she is being hunted by the killer.

Stravinsky - Oedipus Rex

Jessye Norman, Bryn Terfel and Philip Langridge head a star cast in a stunning staging of Stravinsky's opera-oratorio. One of the most visually compelling stagings of any 20th century opera. Julie Taymor's amazing film of Stravinsky's opera-oratorio 'Oedipus Rex' won many awards, following its staging at the Saito Kinen Festival in Japan in 1992. Julie Taymor (designer and director of 'The Lion King') both directed the production and designed the costumes, basing the unique look of the production on early Japanese Haniwa and European Cycladic sculpture (3200-2200 BC), and assisted by a striking set design from George Tsypin and clay make-up from Reiko Kruk. With the great English tenor Philip Langridge in the ill-fated title role, an imperious Jessye Norman as Jocasta, and a young Bryn Terfel as Creon, this was an ideal cast, delivering powerful performances of Stravinsky's archaic drama of disease, corruption, murder, suicide and, finally, self-inflicted blinding. The speaking role is taken by the Japanese actor Min Tanaka, with an all-Japanese male chorus and dancer (as Oedipus's double). The polished Saito Kinen Orchestra was conducted by maestro Seiji Ozawa.

MacMillan - Prince Of The Pagodas, The - Bussell/ Cope

Sir Kenneth MacMillan's glorious version of The Prince of The Pagodas provides a fascinating and magnificent spectacle of classical dance on the grandest scale. Benjamin Britain's exotic score, inspired by the sounds of the gamelan, is the only one that he created for ballet. The oriental theme is followed through with Nicholas Georgiadis's enchanting designs, enhancing the fairytale atmosphere. This production by the Royal Ballet, filmed at Covent Garden in 1990, stars Darcey Bussell as Princess Rose and Jonathan Cope as the Prince. This is the role that launched Bussell's career. MacMillan had noted her exceptional talent while she was still a student and he chose her to create the role of Princess Rose for him.
