This is the ultimate critical review of one of the most under-rated bands in the history of rock. Van der Graaf Generator was enormously influential both in the seventies and beyond. The music is complex, intelligent and inspired. It can also be obscure and unapproachable. Love it or loathe it, the music of Van der Graaf is an art form in itself. Drawing on rare archive footage previously unreleased on DVD this independent critical review features in-depth studies and reflections on the music by former Van der Graaf members Judge Smith, Nic Potter and David Jackson. Also featured are the views of a leading team of music critics and rock journalists. Featured for the very first time are rare clips of Van der Graaf performing 'Whatever Robert Would Have Said' and 'Darkness'. Disc two features all known concert and television footage of Van der Graaf that still survives including 'A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers' and the whole of the 'Godbluff' album.
