Van Der Graaf Generator - The Live Broadcasts

Van Der Graaf Generator - The Live Broadcasts : short review

Van Der Graaf Generator - The Live Broadcasts

The music of Van Der Graaf Generator is complex, intelligent and inspired. It can also be obscure and unapproachable, but it is undisputedly and art form in itself. The main part of this film was recorded in Charleroi, Palais de Expos and captures the classic Generator line up (Banton/Evans/Jackson/Hammill) on their 1975 French tour. Although the band had only recently reformed, Van der Graaf create unique levels of intensity and vision as they take us through the entire Godbluff album. Complementing this stunning performance is rare continental studio footage from the early 70s featuring incendiary performances of Theme of One and A plague of Lighthouse Keepers.

Hole In My Heart, A

Shot under extreme secrecy and set in a dingy suburban apartment, the film features some of the most shocking images in recent memory. Lukas Moodysson focuses on Rickard and his painfully shy son Eric, who spends most of his days holed up in his room, listening to spectacularly abrasive industrial music, presumably in an attempt to drown out what's going on in the rest of the apartment. His father, an amateur pornographer, is shooting his latest opus with a friend Geko and a young woman named Tess. As the trio get drunk and more impressed with themselves, they lose what little inhibitions they had and their behaviour grows more and more disturbing.
