D is a vampire hunter, a half-human, half-vampire, who straddles the two worlds in his pursuit of his bounty across a post-apocalyptic future world. A man of few words, he is troubled and at war with himself. His services are requested by a wealthy ranching family, where the daughter, Charlotte Elbourne has apparently been abducted by one of the few remaining vampires still in existence. The vampire in question is the notorious vampire aristocrat, Meier Link and D sets off in pursuit. He has competition in the form of the Markus brothers and their colleague Leila. The chase brings them into contact with 'zombie' villager victims of a vampire attack, giant 'sand rays' and the mutant Barbarois, creatures who seem to be the distant descendants of the gypsy guardians of the traditional vampire. Can either D or the Markus brothers reach Charlotte and Link while she's still human? And could Charlotte have gone with him willingly?
