American conductor Erich Leinsdorf (1912-1993), originally from Vienna, began his career as assistant to Bruno Walter and Arturo Toscanini at the Salzburg Festival, debuting with tremendous success at the tender age of 26 at New York's renowned Metropolitan Opera House. After many years as musical director of the Rochester Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Boston Symphony and the New York City Opera Company, and guest appearances with many of the world's leading orchestra, Leinsdorf continued to insist on the highest level to musicianship in everything he did.
