Radio Days : short review
A loving tribute to the golden days before television, as seen through the eyes of an eccentric Jewish family - the days when everyone tuned in to their favourite show with religious regularity and a trip to New York's Radio City was a treat to be remembered for a lifetime. Less pretentious than most of Allen's work, it's a gem of warm nostalgia.
Based on a little known incident in the Civil War, John Ford directed this tale of Colonel Grierson who ordered three cavalry regiments to ride 300 miles into the heart of the confederacy and destroy the rail link, thereby choking off supplies. Intensely stylish with some excellent photography.
