The Royal Air Force has fought with honour in two World Wars and played important roles in numerous other conflicts including the Falklands and the 1991 Gulf War. Over that time, aircraft have evolved from slow, flimsy biplanes to sleek and deadly Mach 2 jet fighters, and the RAF has constantly adapted to take advantage of the latest air combat technologies. But while the aircraft and systems may have changed, the standards of professionalism, heroism and dedication displayed by RAF pilots and crew have remained of the very highest order. This is the definitive film history of the Royal Air Force, from the very earliest days of the Royal Flying Corps right through to the present day. This new, up to date video features film of every significant event on the RAF's long and distinguished history, from the First World War to 2003's invasion of Iraq. Also included is action-packed footage of over one hundred different aircraft types flown by the RAF, from the WWI era Sopwith Camel to the latest Eurofighter Typhoon.

Sinopoli, Giuseppe - Two Eyes Of Horus/ Dreampaths Of Music
Two programmes, chosen and conducted by Giuseppe Sinopoli, presented using natural images shot on location in Egypt and elsewhere. A conductor, composer, teacher, physician and archeologist, he died at the age of 55 in 2001 while at the podium conducting Verdi's Aida in Berlin. Two Eyes Of Horus - Sinopoli conducts two famous twentieth-century pieces for string orchestra - Schoenberg's Verklarte Nachst and Richard Strauss's Metamorphosen - and relates them to the myths of the ancient Egyptian world. Each piece is preceded by a documentary sequence in which Sinopoli explains his ideas. Dreampaths Of Music - Features performances of Schumann's Symphony No. 3 ('Rhenish'), the prelude to Wagner's Parsifal and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. For Sinopoli, these pieces form a thought-provoking journey in music from West to East. The visual element uses images of rivers and water, from the Rhine Valley to the Nile.
