A major rail centre on the West Coast Main Line, the city was a fascinating place in the early sixties and this video shows the scene before the diesels arrived in force. The programme features extensive coverage of the station and MPDs together and, in addition, there are journeys on the Silloth and Langholm branches. During this 60-minute programme over 160 engines are featured - over half of them named! As the film progresses the numerous ex-LMS and LNER locomotive classes give way to BR 'Standard' classes in the final run-down of steam traction.

Gallipoli - History In The Depths

Documentary looking at one of the bloodiest conflicts of the First World War - the battle for Gallipoli. Using rare stills and film footage this excellent programme recounts both the naval and land campaigns. Using first hand accounts by th British, Anzac and Turkish soldiers and sailors, it brings the events of those terrible moths in 1915 vividly to life. Modern day footage explores the surviving fortifications and the wrecks littering the sea bed. Divers explore the remains of HMS Irresistible and the British battleships Triumph and Majestic as well as leading barges, supply ships and the Turkish battleship Mesudiye.

Pianist, The

Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Jewish gifted classical pianist living Poland during the Nazi occupation manages to escape deportation to a concentration camp and goes into hiding. For the next few years Wladyslaw eludes capture and lives in the ruins of the Warsaw ghetto.
