
Based on actual events that took place during the Cold War, K-19 tells the story of the Russian submarine K-19, nicknamed the 'Widowmaker'. An impressive undersea weapon that was meant to inspire enough fear into the United States to keep them from bombing Moscow. But the ship was ordered to sea before it was ready and encountered problems that could have lead to the start of World War Three. The film follows the heroism of Captain Alexei Vostrikov who is ordered to take command of the submarine and is prepared to disobey orders from Moscow to save his crew.
