Based on the true story of two real celebrity murderesses who lived in 1920s Chicago. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger star as Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart. Roxie is desperate to have a piece of the action - lights, live music, skimpy costumes and lots of background dancers - she has her sights set on her own vaudeville act. She'd give anything to be like the beautiful Jazz songstress Velma Kelly and see her name up in lights. She knows that marriage to her dopey husband is not going to get her anywhere, so she starts fooling around with Fred Casely who says he has got 'connections'. But Roxy soon realises that he hasn't and kills him. She finds herself on 'murderer's row', surprisingly next to Velma who killed her own husband and sister when she caught them in an affair. The girls are introduced to smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn (Richard Gere) who boasts he's never lost a case defending a female criminal. For $5,000 and a little action on the side, he vows to get the girls off.
