We Were Soldiers

On Sunday November 14th 1965 at 10.48 a.m., Lieutenant Colonel Hal Moore (Mel Gibson) professional soldier, veteran of Korea, father of five, along with Sergeant Major Basil Plumley (Sam Elliott) and Major Bruce Crandall (Greg Kinnear), was dropped in a small clearing in scrub jungle, with the rest of his battalion of men at landing Zone X-Ray in the remote Ia Drang Valley in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam. He vows to the families of these men that he will be the first man on the battleground and the last man off it, he would leave no man behind, dead or alive.... and so it was.
