Newcastle United - Official History

Documentary on the Tyneside football club, Newcastle United, beginning way back in 1892 when Newcastle East End took over St. James Park and changed their name to Newcastle United. From their early days and leading up to the First World War the club was a roaring success lifting the League Championship three times and reaching five FA Cup finals. Their fortunes dwindled during the wars and the club was relegated for the first time. With the help of Stan Seymour the club won promotion back to the first division in 1948. The glory continued and the Magpies became the Kings of Wembley, lifting the FA Cup three times against Blackpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. Unfortunately they were relegated again in 1961 but managed to return back to the first division in 1965. The Seventies were the 'Supermac' years which were to be followed by the Keegan era who rescued them from relegation into the third division. The Nineties saw the introduction of international players like David Ginola as well as the homegrown talents of Alan Shearer. Now, Sir Bobby Robson is at the helm and the Magpies are looking to be a major force once more in the Premiership.
