Destination Germany : short review
Situated in the heart of Europe, Germany has had a huge impact on the face of Europe. A country of rich history and culture it offers a wealth of vibrant, bustling cities. Outdoor activity is an integral part of German life and its landscape provides wonderful opportunities for cycling, skiing, hiking and mountaineering. Traveller Justine Shapiro's journey starts in Berlin where she learns about Germany's experience during World War II. From there she hitches a ride to Neibull before continuing onto the incredible beaches of Sylt. After a stop in Hamburg, she moves to the grand city if Nuremberg before completing her trip climbing Mount Yenna.
Mozart - Clemenza Di Tito - Putnam/ Langridge
La Clemenza di Tito was commissioned to celebrate the coronation of the Emperor Leopold II as King of Bohemia in 1791, and was written in eighteen days. Nicholas Hytner's elegant staging, performed in the original Italian language, was premiered during the Mozart Bicentenary season at Glyndebourne on 28th June, 1991. An impressive cast is led by Philip Langridge (Tito), Ashley Putnam (Vitellia) and Diana Montague (Sesto). New secco recitatives, to replace those written by Mozart?s pupil S?ssmayr, were commissioned by Glyndebourne from composer Stephen Oliver for this production. Andrew Davis conducts the LPO. ?The interplay of the characters has never been more purposefully presented, making nonsense of the old idea of this piece as stiff and static.? The Guardian ?[Langridge] is tremendously strong and impressive in the emotional twists and turns of the recitative.?
