Boxed set containing five productions of Shakespeare's plays. Macbeth (1971) - Polanski's Macbeth caused an outrage on first release for its realistic and unrelenting violence, which many believed was the result of his wife Sharon Tate's brutal murder by the Manson family. Jon Finch and Francesca Annis are excellent as the murderous couple destroyed by guilt. Hamlet (1969) - Nicol Williamson's portrayal of Hamlet was greeted with storms of applause on both the London and Broadway stage. This performance is here captured on film by director Tony Richardson, bringing life to William Shakespeare's immortal play. Henry V (1989) - This award-winning dramatisation of one of Shakespeare's best-loved plays is a story of bravery, honour and heroism with a superb performance by Kenneth Branagh in the title role and an excellent supporting cast including his wife, the Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson. King Lear (1970) - Peter Brook's masterly direction of Shakespeare's heartbreaking tragedy shows all the pride, passion and madness of a once-great King brought down by betrayal and the death of his beloved daughter. With the Royal Shakespeare Company, Paul Scofield provides a uniquely personal interpretation of the character. Taming Of The Shrew (1967) - Burton and Taylor star in Zeffirelli's version of Shakespeare's famous comedy. Katherine, a wild and free-spirited woman, is pursued and eventually tamed into marriage by Petruchio. Brimming with wit, action and period colour while staying close to the original play, Burton and Taylor's high-voltage sparring owes much to their marital woes off-screen.

A rich family, the Hillcrests, is fighting against the speculator, Hornblower, who sends away poor farmers to build factories on their lands. When Mrs. Hillcrest finds out that Chloe Hornblower was a prostitute, she uses this secret to blackmail the speculator and force him to stop his business.
