Running over 7 hours, it is one of the last true epics made and, in the days before computer animation, featured impressively complex battle scenes using tens of thousands of extras, all clothed in authentic uniforms - it is unlikely that a film of this scale will ever be seen again. It won both an Academy Award (R) and Golden Globe (R) for Best Foreign Language picture in 1969.
