Scully

BBC comedy series from 1984 about teen-tearaway and Liverpool FC fanatic Francis Scully (Andrew Schofield). Adapted by Alan Bleasdale (Boys from the Blackstuff, GBH) from the two novels 'Scully' (1975) and 'Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed' the show regularly features cameo appearances from Liverpool legends such as Bob Paisley. A dysfunctional family, a train-spotting brother called Henry (Elvis Costello - who also performs the soundtrack 'Turning the Town Red') and an attention-seeking best mate, Mooey (Ray Kingsley - Mersey Pirate, The Marksman) all conspire to stop Scully from realising his dream. 'Scully: The Complete Series' is more than a football drama it captures the sentiments of working class life in Merseyside in the eighties and remains one of Bleasdale's most memorable dramatisations to date.
