Adapted from the mediaeval murder mystery books by Ellis Peters, the series stars leading British actor, Derek Jacobi, as the fearless monk. This is the complete series one, including the following episodes: One Corpse Too Many - In 12th Century Shrewsbury, a brutal murder is committed which spurs man of cloth turned man of action, Cadfael, into finding out whodunit. The Sanctuary Sparrow - Cadfael investigates the robbery of the town's goldsmith who is left for dead. The finger of suspicion points at a young juggler, who seeks sanctuary with Cadfael at the Abbey. But the plot thickens when a dead body is found floating in the river. The Leper Of St. Giles - The powerful, old, fat Baron Huon de Domville is to marry the young and beautiful Iveta De Massard at the Abbey of Shrewsbury. Definitely not a love match as the Baron is only interested in Iveta's lands and estates and Iveta loves someone else. On the eve of the wedding the Baron rides off alone into the night and is never seen alive again... Monk's Hood - A wealthy landowner decides to leave all his money to the church and cut his step-son out of his will. But before the transaction is complete he is found poisoned while visiting the Abbey. Cadfael is called in to identify the poison and is thrown into confusion when he discovers that the landowner's wife is his childhood sweetheart whom he has not seen for 40 years.
