Based on the true story of Josh Waitzkin, a typical seven year old American boy who one day challenges his father to a game of chess and beats him. His parents decide to hire Bruce, a renowned chess coach, who teaches Josh the usefulness of measured planning. At first Josh is quite happy but along the way becomes tired of Bruce's system and chess in general and purposely throws a match, leaving his prospects of winning the national championships in jeopardy.
