Shostakovich wrote his Symphony No. 9 at the close of World War II. Stalin undoubtedly expected a triumphal work instead, Shostakovich wrote a very sarcastic, light-hearted piece that stands in stark contrast to his often grim war symphonies, the Seventh and the Eight. Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 was his last composition, first performed barely a week before his mysterious and tragic death. It remains one of his most popular works and contains some of his most appealing and emotional music. Maestro Solti leads this sparkling and energetic performance, showing once more why his magnetic personality and his high-intense way of conducting made him one of the most acclaimed orchestral conductors of the 20th century.

Fraternity Vacation

Bruce Tucker and Joe Gillespie are offered the use of a summer apartment at Palm Springs, belonging to Wendell Tvedt's father in return for some instruction for the nerdy Wendell in 'the ways of the world'. When some rival fraternity members also turn up there, they decide to lay bets on who will be the one to win a girl first. Things become more complicated when Wendell and Ashley fall for the same girl.
