Brokeback Mountain : short review
An epic American love story. The film is based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx and adapted for the screen by the team of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963, and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection, one whose complications, joys, and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love. Early one morning in Signal, Wyoming, Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) meet while lining up for employment with local rancher Joe Aguirre (Randy Quaid). The world which Ennis and Jack have been born into is at once changing rapidly and yet scarcely evolving. Both young men seem certain of their set places in the heartland - obtaining steady work, marrying, and raising a family - and yet hunger for something beyond what they can articulate. When Aguirre dispatches them to work as sheepherders up on the majestic Brokeback Mountain, they gravitate towards camaraderie and then a deeper intimacy. At summer's end, the two must come down from Brokeback and part ways. The men later marry and have children, but neither can quite forget the feelings they have for each other. Winner of the Golden Lion Award for Best Picture at this year's Venice International Film Festival. The film won best Film, The David Lean Award for Achievement in Direction for Ang Lee, Adapted Screenplay and best Actor In A Supporting Role for Jake Gyllenhaal at the BAFTAs, 2006. The film also won an Oscar (R) for Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score), Adapted Screenplay and Achievement in Directing for Ang Lee at the 2006 Academy Awards.

They are convinced their friends, The Dandy Warhols, will join them to create a united front. But Anton's creative psychosis takes him to the most remote areas of the human mind to find his original art, and as a result, he destroys every opportunity for financial success. While tracking the destructive path of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, DIG! also accompanies the more 'well-adjusted' Warhols, lead by Courtney Taylor, as they navigate the corporate sea, trying to maintain their creative edge while starring in mega-budget music videos and entertaining crowds in the tens of thousands. DIG! is about both musicians' love and obsession, gigs and recordings, arrests and death threats, uppers and downers - their choices between art and industry, which unfold with the passage of time.
