French and Saunders perform live for the first time in 10 years. Fans are treated to a brand new hilariously funny show as the pair entertain with their own unique brand of humour and use every technological advance in recent years to aid them in their relentless pursuit of laughs.

Alexander Nevsky

Eisenstein's great patriotic period piece tells the story of Prince Alexander Nevsky, who in 1242 raised an army of common people to drive the Teutonic invaders from Holy Russia. Filmed using a music score by Prokofiev, the result is a stirring, almost operatic drama, full of thrilling set pieces such as the Battle of the Ice.

Les Choses Secretes

When the beautiful but naive Sandrine meets the worldly stripper Nathalie, they conspire to better themselves. After gaining employment at a Parisian bank, they set about using their wiles to gain promotion. Sandrine has soon seduced her employer, the owner of the bank, but his son has his own agenda as both women hopelessly fall for him.

The turn of the year is celebrated in a festive manner by the Staatskapelle Berlin with a concert. In accordance with tradition a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is on the program. In addition, on New Year's Day 1997 Daniel Barenboim conducted a festive concert program with soloists, magicians and dancers. It was transmitted worldwide by many television stations and now appears on DVD. The stars of the New Year's concert included the young violinist Raphael Christ, the sopranos Dorothea Roschmann and Simone Nold, and Rosemarie Lang, Reiner Goldberg and Rene Pape amongst others, who you can see and hear singing songs and opera excerpts by Kurt Weill, Walter Kollo and W.A. Mozart. Barenboim also directs orchestral pieces by Otto Nicolai, Camile Saint-Saens, P.I. Tchaikovsky, Dimitri Shostakovich, Paul Lincke and finally, of course, the polka Unter Donner Und Blitzen by Johann Strauss.
