Dan Mahowny (Hoffman) is a successful bank worker at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, working hard and remaining helpful for the customers he finds himself in line for promotion. He also has a girlfriend and a healthy social life. Behind this facade however, he hides a secret. By night he engages in serious gambling activities, which as time goes on, threatens to consume his entire life.

According to Rilling, it is due to the details that this arrangement is so fascinating: dynamic changes, a different segmentation of solo and chorus parts, the instrumentation modulated to the tone characteristic of Mozart's time.
