7 Mummies

7 Mummies : short review

7 Mummies

Centuries ago thousands of Southern American natives were enslaved by Spanish settlers and forced to mine gold from the Guachapa mountain range. Seven Jesuit priests vowed to protect the gold until the Spanish returned to claim their treasure, but as the years went by and the Spanish never returned the priests slowly aged and died. Upon their deaths they were mummified and buried with the treasure, Egyptian style. Four hundred years later a town has been built over the burial site. When the townsfolk discover the truth about the treasure they set out to get it, inadvertently awakening the seven mummified priests from their eternal slumber...

Brokeback Mountain

An epic American love story. The film is based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx and adapted for the screen by the team of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963, and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection, one whose complications, joys, and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love. Early one morning in Signal, Wyoming, Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) meet while lining up for employment with local rancher Joe Aguirre (Randy Quaid). The world which Ennis and Jack have been born into is at once changing rapidly and yet scarcely evolving. Both young men seem certain of their set places in the heartland - obtaining steady work, marrying, and raising a family - and yet hunger for something beyond what they can articulate. When Aguirre dispatches them to work as sheepherders up on the majestic Brokeback Mountain, they gravitate towards camaraderie and then a deeper intimacy. At summer's end, the two must come down from Brokeback and part ways. The men later marry and have children, but neither can quite forget the feelings they have for each other. Winner of the Golden Lion Award for Best Picture at this year's Venice International Film Festival. The film won best Film, The David Lean Award for Achievement in Direction for Ang Lee, Adapted Screenplay and best Actor In A Supporting Role for Jake Gyllenhaal at the BAFTAs, 2006. The film also won an Oscar (R) for Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score), Adapted Screenplay and Achievement in Directing for Ang Lee at the 2006 Academy Awards.

Lascaux - The Prehistory Of Art

Lascaux - The Prehistory Of Art Lascaux is the most beautiful and the most lavish of all the adorned prehistoric caves. But is there really such a thing as prehistoric art? Who were the painters of Lascaux? How to explain the striking stylistic unity of certain clusters, or the contradictions between similar figures that may have been painted in different periods? Days Long Gone - This was the first film to be made about the discovery of Lascaux by children from the village of Montignac. The village school teacher appears as himself in this short film (12 mins), shot in 1942. In the Dordogne of World War II, equipped with candles and pocket torches, the children stumble upon the most fabulous cave paintings of the Old Stone Age. This exceptional and unprecedented document was made a year after the discovery of Lascaux.
