Sea Inside, The

It's 1996 and Ramon Sampedro - now in his mid-50s - has been confined to his bed for the last 28 years after being paralysed from the neck down following a diving accident. He now wants to die and employs Julia, a lawyer, to present his case in court as he believes that living is a right, not an obligation. Sampedro's past life is revealed, highlighting his once active life. His mind wanders as he listens to opera, thinking of the sea, the scene for him of so much pleasure and pain. The film won an Oscar (R) at the Academy Awards 2005 for Best Foreign Language Film Of The Year.
