In the heart of the Louvre Museum, the Apollo Gallery offers a decor of an extraordinary richness. 60 metres long and 12 metres high, paintings, sculptures and gilded wood join together to celebrate the sun god, Apollo. This grandiose decor conceived by Charles Le Brun to mark the beginning of Louis XIV's reign was finally completed on 1851 on the eve of the Second Empire with the magnificent 'Appolo Slays Python' by Eugene Delacroix. The Apollo Gallery is a stage on which some of the great events of French history have been played out as well as artistic.
